Grantham ABC travelled to Peterborough College to compete against D. Coupe from the host club.

In just his second bout for Grantham ABC, Priory Ruskin Academy pupil Jack Roberts boxed really well.

Contesting the 57kg schoolboy division, 14-year-old Roberts took the fight to the Peterborough boxer and during the first round used his jab well, causing all sorts of problems for Coupe who found it difficult to handle the Grantham lad’s southpaw stance.

The second round saw Roberts put more pressure on the Peterborough boxer, using more back hand shots and once again using his jab to great effect.

During the bout, Roberts got a little untidy with his boxing and walked on to a strong right hand from Coupe which ended in a standing eight count for the Grantham boxer.

But this didn’t trouble Roberts who came out of his corner for the third round and once again found his distance with his jab and took control of the bout.

The final decision was left to the judges and Roberts won on a split decision,

Grantham ABC head coach Dean Fardell said: “Jack is a pleasure to coach and never misses a session at the club.”
