More than 25 children from 11 local primary schools participated in the Herbert Pacey Memorial Table Tennis Tournament held at The Meres leisure centre last Saturday.

The event, now in its 14th year, was organised by Cliffedale Chandlers TTC in association with Grantham Academy for Primary and Secondary Schools (GAPS) and Grantham and District Table Tennis League.

The event still manages to attract a large number of young table tennis players from across town, many of whom have only recently started playing the sport.

There were two age categories for the youngsters to compete in for both boys and girls – under-9 and under-11.

There were plenty of helping hands available on the day as the some of the club's ‘Young Leaders’ were on hand to help the young players, whether it was words of encouragement or just little tips.

They were also charged with running an age group which when completed was then split into two for the finals. The top two of each group went into the ‘Main Event’ with the rest going into the ‘Plate Event’.

Results: Main under-9 boys – 1 Harvey Ekwulugo (Huntingtower), 2 Rhys Samways (Huntingtower); Main under-9 girls – 1 Gabi Nalepa (Ropsley), 2 Abigail Handley (Belmont); Main under-11 boys – 1 James Hobbs (Barrowby), 2 Jack Sumner (Isaac Newton); Main under-11 girls – 1 Phoenix Mason (Isaac Newton), 2 Akvile Erol (Belmont); Plate under-9 boys – 1 Dhiraj Vijayaraj (Belton Lane), 2 Olly Newcombe (Belmont); Plate under-9 girls – 1 Daisy Dunnings (Huntingtower), 2 Courtney C (Cliffedale); Plate under-11 boys – 1 Sam (Denton), 2 Harry Bates (St Sebastian's); Plate under-11 girls – 1 Drishya Manoj (National), 2 Amelia Blackwell (St Mary's ).
