CRICKET: Belton Park captain Coulson rips through middle order – before rains stops play
South Lincs & Border League
Belton Park 2nd 50-1
(match abandoned – rain)
Belton’s decision to ask Burgh to bat in overcast conditions seemed to be vindicated as Burgh were reduced to 30-2 by Harry Johnson (2-39).
However, Underwood (26) and Hulme (25) then started to dominate proceedings, taking the score to 72 before Belton skipper Mickey Coulson introduced himself into the attack and removed them both.
Using guile and deceptive flight, Coulson ripped through the middle order with an excellent return of 5-15, ably supported by Danny Parker (2-28) and fantastic catches from James Offer, Alex Wheeler and Matt Warren.
Having slumped to 110-9, Burgh’s last pair made a mockery of the batting order by putting together an excellent unbeaten partnership of 53, with Bruce (32no) producing some fine shots to put the game back in the balance.
In reply, Belton were well set at 50-1 with youngsters Harry Brewin (18no) and Wheeler (19no) threatening to take the game away from Burgh, when heavy rain brought proceedings to a premature end.
