Welby Cricket Club are looking forward to the start of the new season, having amalgamated with a team from Peterborough called Cavaliers.

Following an article in the Journal on the state of Welby CC, who were struggling to field a team, the Cavaliers contacted the club because they had lost their ground. A meeting was called and it was agreed that the teams would merge and be called Welby Cavaliers.

They will continue to play in the South Lincs and Border League on Saturdays and the team will be made up of players from both clubs.

However, club chairman John Gascoyne warned that it may only be a one season merger due to the distance between the two clubs.

Welby CC are still looking for new players to play on Sundays, in the Grantham and Melton Cricket Association, to help form a backbone for the team in future.

The club’s annual meeting is at the Crown and Anchor, Welby, on Sunday, January 17, at 10am. All newcomers are welcome. For more details ring 07961 084566.
