CYCLING: Egner is fastest junior in Witham Wheelers Open 10

Witham Wheelers held their annual Open 10-mile Time Trial on the Sleaford to Osbournby and back course, which also incorporated the club championships.

In warm and dry conditions, a strong westerly breeze made for a difficult ride, not being helpful in any particular direction.

Fastest rider on the day was Ian Guilor (Mapperley CC) in a rapid 20min 57sec (28.6mph).

Quickest club rider and first junior was Adam Egner in 23.18 for sixth overall, whilst Carol Milne was first lady and Josh Gibson first juvenile.

Other club results: 9 Henry Gould 23:38, 10 Jacob Storey 23:43 (now Islington CC), 16 Mick Egner 24:20, 20 Michael Smalley 24:38, 22 Simon Cocker 24:44, 25 Ehren Courtman (now RPD racing) 25:27, 26 Tony Hardenberg 25:40, 29 Martin Lister 26:10, 31 Carol Milne 27:53, 32 Phil Smith 27:58, 33 Dave Herd 28:05, 35 Josh Gibson 29:16, 38 Phil Ginson 29:36, 39 John Scott 30:32.

+ The second counting event in the Club Circuit Time Trial competition took in two laps of the rolling Skillington road race course in warm dry conditions with just a slight westerly breeze to slow riders on the drag up to Saltby.

In the ladies’ competition, Louise George (1:11:25) consolidated her lead by more than a minute, with Sophie Hunt (1:12:49) moving up to second and Tracey George continuing to improve, only three minutes behind in third.

With Reece Egner, the leader from round one, out of action for up to six weeks after sustaining a fractured elbow in a recent road race crash, John Pilgrim moved up to first, going just over 25mph with 57:36, followed by juniors Adam Egner (59:11) and Robert McAndrew 1:1:52.
