Witham Wheelers brothers Adam and Reece Egner enjoyed a great day’s racing at the Darley Moor circuit on Sunday.

First up was the under-16 race for Adam in which he stayed with the front bunch, making numerous efforts to try and break clear but not being able to make the move stick in the strong headwind.

When it came to the sprint finish, Adam was in a good position but his previous efforts took their toll and meant he could only hold on for fifth place.

In the 3/4 category race, Reece went for an early breakaway that saw him stay away from the chasing pack for almost 10 laps.

After being reeled back in he rested in the bunch, knowing the race would end in a bunch sprint. Coming into the finish, Reece made sure he was in a good position but finished just outside the points in 11th.

l Witham Wheelers time trialists contested some late season events at the weekend.

Rick Yates was the quickest of a trio of Wheelers who rode Saturday’s Barnsley RC 10 on the A1 near Ranby. Also riding were James Westwood (22.21) and Anthony Hardenberg (23.54).

Gary Symons raced over the same distance at Cambridge to record 22.21, whilst Martin Hedley posted 1.04.35 in the Ratae 25 on the lumpy Six Hills course.

Yates dipped under the hour in Sunday’s ANDCC 25 in the Vale of Belvoir, finishing in 59.54. Also riding were Westwood (1.02.25) and Hedley (1.04.01).
