WITHAM Wheeler Karl Baillie enjoyed a successful weekend in the latest two rounds of the National Juvenile Circuit Race Series.
On Saturday, Karl broke away four laps into the 30-lap race of a 1km circuit at Blackpool. Heading into the prime lap, a group of six bridged the gap but Karl held on to take second in the sprint.
He dropped back to the main bunch but launched off the front to take sixth in the final sprint to the finish line.
Karl was in action again at Scarborough on Sunday. The peloton stayed together on the first 10 flat laps but the final five laps took in a steep hill each time.
Karl kept with the leaders on the climbs but just fell away on the final lap to finish 12th.
l Veteran Phil Etches took part in the LVRC Clifton road race on Sunday.
Competing in the EF age category, Phil left it late to kick for his sprint to the line, finishing third by three bike lengths into a stiff headwind.
Phil Atherton and Rob Johnson rode the CD race and were always comfortable in the bunch. Phil jumped too early in the sprint and was swamped on the line. Rob took 12th with Phil four places behind.
