CYCLING: Riders battle strong winds in latest reliability ride

DESPITE the welcome non-appearance of the heavy rain forecast, strong winds still made the sixth round of the Witham Wheelers reliability ride series a real challenge.

Thirty-five riders took part, spread over five ability-related groups. Four groups tackled the full 50-mile route down towards Rutland Water and back via Wymondham, with Group One taking a shorter 38-mile route at a more leisurely pace.

l This Sunday’s ride sees the full distance go up to 60 miles, taking a more northerly route to Waddington and back via Sleaford. The first group will leave Grantham Cricket Club, in Gorse Lane, at 9am. A shorter route will be available for those not yet ready for the full distance.
