There were excellent conditions for this week’s Witham Wheelers league 10-mile time trial on Tuesday evening, with Gary Symons the quickest in 23min 18sec out of 40 riders.

Gary was a good 41 seconds in front of Peter Watson who was just one second ahead of Rick Yates.

Junior Reece Egner was fourth, as he swopped his time trial bike for a standard road bike, just getting the better of younger brother Adam in fifth. Fastest lady was junior Jenny McAndrew in 27:08, eight seconds ahead of Lara Thornhill and one second behind younger brother Robert.

Robert also won the handicap for the second week running, taking a massive 2:33 from his previous best last week. Veteran Dave Miller also improved by more than a minute-and-a-half with juvenile Ehren Courtman improving by nearly 30 seconds in third.

The veterans’ competition is already developing into a real battle, with just five seconds separating the top three of Michael Smalley, Gary Symons and Rick Yates.

The previous week’s opening 10 of the season was won by Reece Egner in 23:03, ahead of Gary Symons and Peter Watson. Carol Milne was fastest of the ladies.

The third round of the handicap 10 series takes place on Gorse Lane on Tuesday night at 6.45pm. Sign on at Grantham Cricket Club from 6pm. New riders welcome.
