He made an early solo attack that saw him stay away for four laps, before being joined by two chasers.

The trio worked well together to successfully hold off the chasing pack for the remainder of the race.

Adam’s two companions slowed slightly going into the the first corner of the last lap, and so he took his chance to jump away and managed to hold on to take the win.

l Karl Baillie took part in the La Coupe du President de la Ville de Grudziadz race in Poland with the HMT Academy – the first British team in the event’s history.

It was a four-day stage race with a 12.5km team time trial and four road stages around 100km apiece. Sixteen nations from around Eastern Europe made up the 34 teams, creating a field of 200 riders.

In the team time trial, Karl’s HMT Academy team rode very fast to average more than 30mph, but that was only good enough for 14th place.

In the following stages, Karl rode strongly in the leading groups, avoiding crashes and making the selection on windy and rainy stages to finish a highly respectable 26th overall. HMT Academy were sixth overall, beating 10 national teams.
