CYCLING: Witham Wheelers enjoy frost-free ride

Witham Wheelers’ latest reliability trial took place without a trace of frost on the Heckington-Bourne-Corby Glen circular route on Sunday.

Thirty riders faced some early morning fog but, once it had cleared, conditions were ideal.

The riders were split into just ability-related groups, the largest of which worked surprisingly well for most of the 63-mile route, with four punctures being the major problem on the muddy roads.

This Sunday’s ride is a lumpy but scenic route out to Melton Mowbray, and then on to Tilton-on-the-Hill, before returning via Oakham. A shorter route option will also be available.

Start time is 8.45am from Grantham Cricket Club in Gorse Lane.
