Four members of Witham Wheelers took to the boards for their first track league meeting of the year at Manchester Velodrome on Friday night.

Reece, Mick and Adam Egner joined Dave Moulds to contest the meet with saw a full field of 30-plus in each group.

First up in Group One was Mick and Dave in the points race. Mick pulled out after 10 laps, still not feeling 100 per cent after his broken shoulder and decided to sit the rest of the evening out. Dave finished with the bunch.

Dave went on to take fifth in the 16-lap scratch and four-lap dash ,and then took 10th in the elimination.

In Group Two were Reece and Adam. Adam was apprehensive about moving up a group so played it safe in the first couple of races, however in the later races he put in some good digs and was unfortunate not to finish in the top five.

Reece had his first race, which was the unknown distance, and broke away on the second lap and managed to get away from the chasing group. One rider bridged the gap and narrowly beat Reece in the sprint.

In the points race, Reece placed fifth, and took mid-bunch finishes in the four-lap dasha nd scratch races.

Last but not least was the elimination race which Reece went on to win to complete a good night back on the boards.

l A brilliant sunny morning but another hard frost meant reduced numbers again for the third Witham Wheelers reliability ride.

However, a small route change took in the salted descent of Harlaxton Hill rather than Denton which meant that the riders who braved the cold enjoyed an almost frost free 40-mile route, peppered with climbs at Eastwell, Harby, Stathern, and Woolsthorpe, then back via Denton.

This Sunday’s ride is an undulating route out into the Vale of Belvoir to Colston Bassett and back via Waltham on the Wolds. The first, slower group will set off from Grantham Cricket Club in Gorse Lane at 9am. All welcome.
