CYCLING: Witham Wheelers race their final league meeting of the year at Manchester track

Witham Wheelers Mick, Adam, and Reece Egner travelled up to Manchester Velodrome for their Friday night track league meeting till late in the year.

In the 24-strong Group One, Mick and Dave finished in the top 10 of the four-lap dash. Dave came 5th and Mick a close 6th. Then it was the elimination race where Dave came fifth and Mick seventh in the 16-lap scratch race.

The pair both finished mid-bunch in the unknown distance rance and in the final 20-lap points race, both Dave and Mick managed to get a point in one of the sprints and then finished in the pack.

In the 38-strong Group Two, Adam and Reece also began with the four-lap dash in which Reece finished fifth and Adam in the bunch.

Reece won two of the five sprints and managed second overall in the 25-lap points race, while Adam was unlucky to get any points but stayed with the front bunch.

In the 20-lap scratch race, Adam tried a breakaway early on but was reeled back in. Reece was fourth in the sprint but Adam was too tired from his attack to try and contest the final dash to the line.

The youngsters both managed to stay upright after a big crash in the elimination race, with Adam finishing eighth and brother Reece going on to take the win.

The final unknown distance race saw Adam and Reece go for a breakaway from the gun and managed to split the field and stay away for five laps. Once they had been caught, Adam stayed in the bunch and managed to finish just outside the top 10, with Reece winning the final sprint.
