Witham Wheelers promoted the latest round of the Lincs Cyclo-Cross league at Stroxton on Sunday.

Some overnight rain helped soften the fields slightly and with the grass reasonably short plus a few tweaks to the course layout, riders were very positive about the racing.

The under 16 race was won by Alex Haines of Leicester RC who despite mechanical problems mid-race was able to recover for a reasonably comfortable win, while Robert McAndrew (WW) held of a determined challenge from Bryn Richards (Bourne Wh) to take an excellent second place.

The under-12s saw a good ride by Jessica East for 22nd overall and fourth girl

The veterans race’ is always very competitive with more than 60 riders taking to the start line. Neil Sentance (PedalPushers) was the best of the local riders in his first season of ’cross for many years in 13th place, with Dave Moulds 30th and Sean East 32nd.

There was an excellent win for George Thompson (Sleaford Wheelers) in the senior race, going clear from the first lap and never being challenged by a strong group of four riders which eventually broke up for Matt Barrett to just beat Adam Gascoigne for second. There was a tight finish for the honour of first Witham Wheeler as Adam Egner closed down brother Adam on the last lap, but just failed to overtake in a sprint to the line as they finished 24th and 25th respectively. Heidi Moulds rode well to finish 41st and fifth lady.

Race organiser Dave Beckett expressed thanks to all the club members who gave up their weekend rides to help set the course up on Saturday and with the running of the event on Sunday.
