Witham Wheelers promoted the annual Jack O’Connor Inter-club 25-mile time trial on the Sleaford-Osbournby-Donnington course last Tuesday.
Racing against riders from Newark Castle, VC Lincoln and Sleaford Wheelers, Witham Wheelers’ youngsters stepped up the mark, not only winning the trophy for the club but also filling the top three places.
In warm, dry conditions, with only a light northerly breeze slowing riders, times were generally fast. Eighteen-year-old Peter Cocker (Team Forme), riding second claim for the Grantham club, led the way by recording a three minute improvement on his previous best for the distance, clocking a rapid 56min 54sec.
Nineteen-year-old triathlon specialist Patrick Cutmore improved by two minutes in 57.52, with 16-year-old Karl Baillie also beating his previous best with 58.05. Fourth counter for the team was veteran Martin Hedley in 1.02.50.
