Long Bennington-based Sue Mart and Team Bennington have been selected to represent Team GB at the World Driving Championships for Ponies in Breda, Netherlands, in September.

They recently took third place in the Advanced Single Pony class at the National Driving Championships at Sandringham, which secured Sue and the team their place in the GB line-up. Team Bennington includes driver Sue, her back stepper sister Wendy, and groom Erica Hine from Dry Doddington

Sue will be driving her experienced pony Steppers Vicroy (Zac) on which she competed at the World Championships in 2007 in Germany, where she finished seventh.

Bennington Carriage, of which Sue is managing director, are delighted that the three drivers chosen to represent Team GB in the Advanced Single Pony class all drive a Bennington Carriage.

Bennington Carriages, a family business founded by Sue’s father Michael Mart, has been designing and manufacturing horse-drawn vehicles for pleasure and competition for more than 50 years.

Bennington is the only carriage builders to currently hold a Royal Warrant from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, and the company has been supplying the Royal Household since 1979.

Bennington has also manufactured carriages for The Sultan of Brunei and The Disney Corporation, as well as for driving enthusiasts the world over.

Sue is also a UKCC Level 3 coach in Driving, an international competitor representing Team GB and chief trainer at the Bennington Driving Academy.

The Academy offers a wide range of carriage driving experiences for all levels and disciplines – from novice to advanced and from pleasure to competition. The Academy’s Try Driving days are a fun and inexpensive introduction to the sport. For drivers wanting to improve their skills, the Driving Academy offers personal coaching with Sue and organises a number of master classes with the UK’s top driving trainers.
