Beehive United 9

Blue Pig 1

In what was meant to be a close battle between fierce rivals, Beehive swarmed all over the Blue Pig to take the biggest prize in Grantham League football.

Within two minutes, a crossfield pass from Danny Mc Donald found Junior Gaskin who carried the ball into the box, before a clumsy tackle from Scothern resulted in the referee pointing to the spot. Jack Stafford stepped up and smashed the penalty into the top corner.

Straight from the kick-off, Beehive captain James Green won the ball back before laying it off to Billy Gray. His 30-yard crossfield ball found Gaskin who left Figura eating his dust before cooly slotting home number two.

A beautiful free kick by Bobby Lee was glanced in by Danny Moore to make it three before Mark Gray met another perfect delivery to make it 4-0 after 11 minutes.

Martin Mc Clean pulled one back for the Pig before half time.

The second half started like the first, as Beehive were still buzzing and not in any mood to take their foot off the pedal.

Another superb delivery, this time from the magical Gaskin, was glanced in by Mark Gray to claim his second of the game.

Another reckless tackle from a Pig defender again had the referee pointing to the spot. This time Moore cooly sidefooted the penalty into the bottom left hand corner, before firing home to complete his hat trick five minutes later.

With both Gray and Martin Parke keeping the Pig at bay with ease, it was just a question of how many “the stingers” would score.

A number of chances went begging before Matt Walton unleashed a thunderbolt from 40 yards out to secure himself the goal of the season

Great work from James Loveridge and James Ballaam allowed man-of-the-match Gaskin to slip the ball into Lee who dispatched it to make it 9-1 to the Beehive just before the final whistle was blown

Captain James Green lifted Grantham football’s biggest prize to massive applause from the crowd

The management and players of Beehive United FC would like to thank Andy and Jane of the Beehive public house, and Mick and Bernie Gray from sponsors MG Roofing for their support throughout the year.
