A charity football match between Grantham Town Legends and Harrowby United Legends is being staged at The Meres stadium on Saturday (May 2).

The game is in aid of three-year-old Alana Mills who is undergoing chemotherapy for leukaemia at Queen’s Medical Centre. Organisers are hoping to raise enough money to help Alana fulfil her dream of going to Euro Disney.

Managed by John Wilkinson and Nick Andersen, players confirmed for the Grantham Town side are Mario Ziccardi, Carl Saville, Dan Starbuck, Grant Neil, Jim Neil, Dave Rogers, Billy Stubbs, Tim Wilkes, Chris Down, Darren Bogan, Pete Sutton, Ian Wilkins, Brendan McDaid, Stu Wilson, Jay Minett, Marco Carluchi, Darren Gwyther, Jamie Clarke, Billy Munton, Sam Mullarky, Gary Bull and Ian Williams.

Jay Harrison and Graham Drury will be in charge of Harrowby United Legends who will comprise Ian Flaval, Jon Turner, Daz Alderson, Daz Glover, Mark Huggins, Dom Revill, Matt Hodgkin, Mick Spencer, Chris Gray, Simon Bolland, James Baxter, Gaz Walters, Lee Marshall, Tommy Harwood, Mark Foster, Baz Payne, Keith Gray, Steve Fardell, Robbie Williams, Jay Harrison, Sam Piggot, Rick Ranshaw and Dan Hargreaves.

The winners of the match will be presented with the Marge and George Freeston Memorial Trophy.

One of the charity match organisers, Jay Harrison, said he wanted to see a nice big crowd come and help Alana achieve her dream of seeing the princesses at Euro Disney.

He said: “I want to the town to unite and support this special little girl. I remember as a young boy that the town united and supported Grantham Town v Man United for Christopher Buckingham all those years ago.”

The gates to The Meres ground will open at noon where there will be stalls selling everything from cakes to face painting, along with a kids’ ‘beat the keeper’ challenge.

There will also be a raffle with prizes including a two-night stay for two in York, a meal for two at Bombay Brasserie, a meal for four at The Farrier, a DAB radio, a £50 voucher and many more.

Raffle prizes or donations can be donated via Indulge Hair and Beauty in Wharf Road, or call Lauren or Emily on 01476 591020.

Admission to the game is £3 with all proceeds going to Alana’s dream. Note that kick-off is 2pm.
