SATURDAY league footballers in Grantham face a new rule-change for the coming season aimed at getting more players on the field.
The introduction of “roll-on, roll-off” substitutes will mean each team can name five subs who can be brought on and off the pitch an unlimited number of times.
Under existing rules a club may only use a maximum of three substitutes from five named substitutes and once substituted the player cannot participate any further in the game.
But for the 2012/13 season all five substitutes can be used and a player can be substituted as many times as the club wishes.
The rule change could lead to teams bringing on a specialist free-kick or penalty takers for set-pieces or even tall players brought on specifically to defend or attack corners.
NOTE: Grantham Sunday League is NOT taking part in the pilot after teams voted against the proposal.
