Barrowby 1

Barkston & Syston 3

DESPITE finishing second from bottom, Barkston’s last game was by far their best performance, against a strong Barrowby side.

Barkston started with only nine players but managed to get one more. Barrowby had much of the first-half possession but Barkston limited their chances.

Barkston got more into the game after the breaqk and went ahead through veteran Paul Russell who drove shot shot past the keeper. Barrowby upped the tempo and levelled from an own goal by Dalton.

But Barkston restored their lead when Mark Stubbs lobbed the keeper in his last game for the club after seven seasons.

Barrowby pushed forward but Barkston hit them on the break and Shane Munton killed the game off with a great strike.

Barkston: Baines, Masters, Wing, Dalton, Wilson, Stubbs, Key, Munton, Pidd, Russell.

Ropsley 1

Railway Club 4

RAILWAY started well, piling on the pressure and chasing down every ball. They grabbed the first goal thanks to an unstoppable 35yd free kick from captain Aust arrowing into the top right hand corner.

Ropsley grabbed a goal back with a well-worked move and a long range shot which clipped the bottom of the bar and into the back of Matty Atter’s goal.

Railway then went back in front when Barker laid back to Barker who placed the ball into the back of the net.

Railway kept the pressure up in the second half and further extended the lead. A strike from Aust was superbly saved by Ropsley keeper Neil Graham, only to fall to Adamson at the back post who slotted home.

Railway defended well and were helped by some super goalkeeping from Atter. Hard work from the team led to the final goal in the rout when an effort from Tyler crept embarrassingly past Ropsley stopper Graham and into the net.
