Grantham Town league lead down to four points

GRANTHAM Town could only manage a 2-2 draw at Sutton Coldfield Town today (Saturday), dropping two points to promotion chasers Ilkeston and Carlton Town who both won.

The Gingerbreads took the lead at Coles Lane through Sam Purcicoe in the third minute.

Sutton Coldfield were awarded a penalty which was saved by Rob Murray, but Murray was unable to stop Luke Chapman’s 18th minute effort.

The home side went in front with a goal from Jack Stone in the 56th minute, but Grantham came back and equalised in the 70th minute.

Sutton Coldfield ended the match with two men sent off and manager Neil Tooth sent to watch the game from the stand.

Second placed Ilkeston beat Rainworth Miners Welfare 2-0 at home and Carlton Town won 1-0 at Stamford.

Grantham lead by four points with 74, but still have three games in hand on the Derbyshire side. Carlton now have 64 points.
