FANS’ favourite and club character Danny ‘Zuko’ Hargreaves has decided to call it a day with the Gingerbreads. The winger recently returned from Australia but, after watching the Gingerbreads’ clash with top of the table Barwell from the bench, has decided for personal reasons that he cannot carry on at The Meres.

Hargreaves was one of the few players to stay when John Wilkinson left the Gingerbreads, making 97 appearances in three seasons and scoring 16 goals.

Always playing with a smile on his face, Grantham joint manager Jimmy Albans described Hargreaves as a pleasure to work with.

Albans said: “Danny is a great character both in the dressing room and on the pitch. He will certainly be missed around the place, but with family and work commitments he didn’t think he could continue to give the commitment he knows we want. Typically, Danny gave his team-mates a big compliment as he added that he thought he would struggle to get back into the side, the way everyone played against Barwell. We wish him well for his future and he will always be welcome back here.”
