(Beehive United won 3-0 on penalties)

CUP holders Beehive made it to their first final after a hard fought victory against rivals Barrowby.

With both sides set up in a 3-5-2 formation, it was always going to be a midfield battle with tackles aplenty and space at a premium.

Barrowby dominated the first 20 minutes and had a couple of decent chances from the dangerous left foot crosses of Clarke, but nobody was there to finish it off as the ball dropped into the Beehive box, even with the home side’s defence slow to react.

Against the run of play, Beehive took the lead when Harper volleyed home superbly past unsighted Barrowby keeper Flavell.

Beehive then enjoyed their best spell of the half but without really troubling Flavell.

Kicking with the wind in the second half, Barrowby deservedly equalised when Radford tapped in from a mix-up in the Beehive defence.

With the game evenly balanced, Stinson had Beehive’s best chance to win the game but shot wide from Reidy’s clever squared ball.

With time running out, Barrowby had two or three great opportunities to win the cup tie themselves. Firstly Flavell’s long punt upfield was somehow kept out by Drury from Glover. And from the resulting corner, Barrowby hit the bar twice and could count themselves unlucky not to snatch victory in normal time.

The game went straight to penalties and amazingly Barrowby missed their first three. Reidy, Hill and Wilson made no mistake for Beehive to send them through to the final once again.

Beehive’s man of the match was Sam Turner and for Barrowby it was Jack Whyley.

+ Beehive play their re-arranged Junior Lincs Cup semi-final tomorrow (Saturday) when they take on Lincolnshire League side Horncastle.

A bus will leave the Beehive public house at midday. Kick-off is 2.30pm.
