Grantham & District Sunday League
Osbournby Rangers 1
A goal and a man down after 15 minutes, Ropsley recovered to claim a memorable away win at Osbournby.
The home side were already one ahead when Ropsley centre forward Steve Petrou took exception to a strong tackle in the Osbournby box. Once the pushing and shoving had subsided, the pint-sized goal-poacher was sent for an early bath.
However, it was the team with 10 men who reacted best to the dismissal, narrowly missing out on going into half time level when a George Petrou penalty was smartly saved.
Both sides had chances early in the second half before Jake Burrows made the Osbournby keeper pay for a poor clearance, keeping his head before slipping the ball into the far corner.
Against the odds, Ropsley went ahead with 10 minutes left thanks to a goal from midfielder Liam Warner.
Warner then made sure of the three points, balletically back-heeling the ball home following a missed catch by the goalkeeper.
Left-winger Ben Lund scored the final and finest goal of the game, cutting inside and hitting an unstoppable strike into the far corner to seal a fine victory.
