Springfield were determined to gain revenge and prevent a TRE double, with United having pipped them to the league title by a single point.

But it did not start well for Springy who found themselves a goal down within the first 10 minutes following a fine United move. The crossbar prevented TRE from doubling their advantage.

Springy sprang into life and began to play some good football. They were forced to make two substitutions after 30 minutes, but it was one of these who levelled the scores when Martin Wormall was put through and steered the ball past the on-rushing keeper.

The second half saw both sides create chances, with United starting to show signs of tiredness.

Springy took the lead when Wormall set up Scott Webb who coolly bent his shot round the TRE stopper.

With 10 minutes remaining, United had the chance to take the game to extra time, but squandered the opportunity to hand victory to Springfield.

Springy manager Daz Wilson thanked his side’s new kit sponsor Quality Furniture, their pitch sponsor Springfield Arms public house, and said both sides had enjoyed the day.

He said: “It was a great win against a good team, with both teams drinking together after.”
