Wheatsheaf Reserves 2
Barkestone le Vale 1
Barkestone went into this game on the back of several good results in recent weeks but within 10 mad minutes found themselves trailing 2-0 and a man down.
Wheatsheaf’s first goal came from a free kick into the box where their centre forward slotted home from six yards. The second was unfortunate as Sam Garner’s clearance from inside the six-yard box cannoned off the centre forward past goalkeeper Dave Allen.
To make matters worse, Nick Silverwoood was shown a straight red card.
As Barkestone reorganised with 10 men, they defended solidly as a team to prevent Wheatsheaf adding to their tally.
Towards half time, the visitors started coming into the game. Good play down the left resulted in a good ball into the box looking for the head of Fazackerley. He was pushed to the floor in the box. Chris Tonge coolly converted the spot kick to give Barkestone hope at half time.
In the second half, Barkestone played fantastically well and had the majority of the play, keeping possession well on what was now a very heavy and energy-sapping pitch.
But try as they might, the 10 men could not find a way through a well organised Wheatsheaf side and came away disappointed at the final whistle.
Man of the match was Jake Hutchinson.
