Great Ponton 2

Barrowby Lions 7

A fantastic all-round team performance by the Lions ensured they deservedly came away with all three points.

The tone was set from the very first whistle with the Lions attacking from the off and forcing the home goalkeeper inato numerous saves.

A first-half hat trick from man-of-the-match Joe Down and another goal from Samuel Wright made it 4-1 at the break, with Bowen replying for the home team.

In the second half, it was much of the same with Barrowby doing most of the attacking and Ponton looking a threat on the counter attack.

A cracker from Kyle Cooper made it five and further goals from Olly Hands and Korban Read capped off a brilliant display from the league leaders, with Hull scoring a second for the home team.

The win opened up a gap at the top of the league with nearest rivals Gonerby only managing a draw.

If Gonerby had shown a little more composure in front of goal, the result could have been much different.

Having kept Mayfield at bay until half time, Yellows conceded after the break. The home side doubled their lead with a controversial second goal.

Alex McIntosh and Harry Hutton were unlucky not to score, and Mayfield failed to convert a penalty.

Gonerby were rewarded with a goal from Luke Bond, but the home side responded immediately. Bond found the net a second time but it was too little, late.

Man of the match was James Ladds in midfield.

Another excellent pass, this time from Ryan Taggart, gave McNulty the chance to run through on goal and he superbly converted a second. Minutes later another Gorman through ball allowed McNulty to notch his third with another fine poacher’s goal.

The second half again saw Gonerby dominant and further goals came from George Corden, with a fine 20-yard strike, McNulty for a fourth time, and Sam Brown following a long kick by keeper Stefan Eardley.
