Nottingham Youth League
Under-15 Division Three
Market Warsop 1
A win in this game for Market Warsop would have seen them crowned champions while victory for Barrowby would have ensured promotion, albeit with a possible seven day wait to see whether as champions or runners-up.
A close, tense game was expected and this was a match that didn’t disappoint the large crowd that had gathered for this match. Unfortunately, Barrowby manager Dale Dudley had to miss the game due to sickness, so assistant coach Mark Sandon took the reins for this final game of the season.
Barrowby started brightly enough and their fluid passing game saw Ludew score to take the lead.
However, as the half progressed Market Warsop enjoyed far more possession in midfield and then a mix-up in the Barrowby defence saw Jordan Carter pounce to level the scores going into half time.
A draw would not have been good enough for Barrowby, so although they started the second half in great form and were winning most of the second balls in midfield, with 20 minutes remaining on the clock they switched to an attacking 3-5-2 formation which seemed to surprise the home side, who thereafter were forced into a defensive game.
A stunning volley from man-of-the-match Ludew was a fitting goal to win the match and drew applause from both sets of supporters.
All in all, it was a magnificent advertisement for the Nottingham Youth League, with two good sides giving their all in a fantastic football match – and a great win for Barrowby to see them secure promotion.
A further tense match on Sunday between Huthwaite and Market Warsop will see who will join Barrowby next season in Division Two and also decide which team are crowned champions.
