United Counties League
Harrowby United 0
Harborough Town 2
Harrowby United entertained Harborough Town at the Environcon Stadium on Saturday but could not follow on from their good performance last Tuesday night and went down to a goal in each half from Lucas Blackwell and Danny Wright.
Early exchanges were even and in an uneventful first 15 minutes both defences showed determination and made life difficult for the respective forwards. Harrowby’s first good move came on 17 minutes when Mitch Dennis was released down the right by Liam Jaques, but his cross was intercepted with Bolland arriving at the back post.
The visitors responded well and were awarded a free kick 40 yards out after a foul by Sam Weatherstone. Blackwell delivered a dangerous delivery into the Harrowby box but Stubbs was there to clear the danger.
On 37 minutes, Harrowby were made to pay when a loose ball from Bollond was intercepted on the half way line by Jack Burrows. He carried the ball to edge of Harrowby’s 18 yard box before shooting and was unlucky to see his strike hit the crossbar, but Blackwell was on hand to open the scoring from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
The second half was a mirror of the first with both defences on top, but on the hour mark Dennis was again sent free but was denied by a good tackle by Callum Traynor. Harborough could have extended their lead on 65 minutes but Blackwell could not find the target with his header from close range.
Harrowby’s defence was called upon again on 70 minutes and they were up to the task when the ever dangerous Wright was denied by Weatherstone.
The killer goal came in the 78th minute when Wright’s looping headed from Alex McMillan’s cross eluded the outstretched arm of Rhodes in the Harrowby goal.
Harrowby pressed hard in the final 10 minutes but were unable to break down Harborough’s well organised in defence.
Harrowby United 0
Rothwell Corinthians 2
Harrowby again found themselves on the wrong end of a two nil defeat on Wednesday night, with goals in each half by the visitors proving too much for Harrowby.
Rothwell went ahead on 25 minutes through Jed Downing, with a well taken effort from 20 yards beating Craig Rhodes in the Harrowby goal.
Harrowby tried hard to equalise but for all their endeavour never really threatened Rothwell’s goal.
As they pressed hard with five minutes remaining, they were caught on the counter-attack when the visitors doubled their lead with a Callum Plowright goal.
