United Counties League
Boston Town 5
Harrowby United 1
The local derby started so well for Harrowby United at the Poachers’ Tattershall Road ground, but turned sour in the second half as the home side ran out comfortable winners.
The Arrows began brightly and after only three minutes a Rick Brewer free kick played into Danny Durkin’s feet saw the young striker turn and fire a shot goalwards, but too close to Boston keeper James Doughty.
The home side got into their stride and looked to get at Harrowby’s backline who soaked up the pressure comfortably and also made chances, troubling the Boston defence on the counter attack. On one such counter, Jack Whyley played the ball out of defence and found Durkin out on the right. Man-of-the-match Durkin cut inside and fired low past a diving Doughty, the ball nestling into the corner of the net to give the Arrows the lead.
Just before the half hour mark, Boston levelled when a cross-cum-shot was blocked and the ball dropped kindly to Craig Parker who slotted home from close range. The Poachers took the lead after 32 minutes when Harrowby thought they were harshly penalised for a foul around 25 yards out. Matt Kennedy stepped up to curl a sublime free kick into the top corner.
Boston came out all guns blazing at the start of the second period and, five minutes after the restart, were awarded a penalty kick after Jack Wrightwick was pulled back by John Currall as he raced into the area. Kennedy took the resultant spot kick and was was denied his second goal of the game by a superb save from Jack Drury.
Boston grabbed their third goal after 62 minutes when a fine cross from the right by Aaron Eyett was bundled home at the far post by Nick Jackson. A fourth came three minutes later when Harrowby conceded possession cheaply in midfield and the ball was played through by Loz Lamley to Alex Beck, who produced a cool finish, slotting the ball past the advancing Drury.
Harrowby’s misery was compounded after 70 minutes when good work from Boston substitute Tony Battersby saw him thread the ball though to Beck who slotted low from a tight angle and the ball squeezed between Drury’s legs and into the net.
