Northampton ON Chenecks 4
Harrowby United 5
Harrowby United rediscovered their goal touch on their visit to Northampton ON Chenecks, returning home with a well earned three points in a nine goal thriller.
The Arrows started well and created early chances, the most notable when Martin Wormall took the ball wide of home keeper Ben Fagan and looked certain to score, only to be thwarted by a great block challenge by Chenecks skipper Joe Lewington.
The game’s first goal arrived after nine minutes when Liam Harper scored for Harrowby with a low drive through a crowd of players. The lead was was short-lived as Chenecks scored straight from the restart through James Allcock, who picked the ball up after a cross into the box was punched out by Jack Drury in the Harrowby goal.
Harrowby’s lead was restored after 15 minutes when Wormall collected the ball on the right hand side edge of the box and finished with a precise shot into the left hand bottom corner.
The game was level again on 26 minutes after indecision and a loose pass in the Harrowby defence left Allcock through on goal, and he duly finished smartly past Drury. Just past the half hour mark, the home side went in front for the first time when more sloppy play in the Arrows’ defence allowed a left wing cross to find an unmarked Allcock who headed past Drury to complete his hat trick.
Harrowby levelled six minutes later when a ball into the box from skipper Jack Whyley was headed out only as far Wormall. His low shot was parried out to an alert Lee Shaw who finished from five yards out.
The second half was an even affair until just past the hour when a through ball from Bobby Lee was taken on by Shaw who was brought down by a desperate last ditch tackle in the box. Referee Mr Clark awarded a penalty and Wormall stepped up to restore Harrowby’s lead.
The Arrows went further ahead when man-of-the-match Wormall completed his hat trick with the goal of the game. He picked up a clearance, advanced down the right before cutting inside to unleash a wicked swerving shot past a helpless Fagan.
United’s reserve was tested after Chenecks pulled a goal back from the penalty spot with three minutes left, after Whyley fouled Adam Hancock who picked himself up to convert the spot kick.
A nervy last few minutes were seen out to give Harrowby the points, and they nearly increased the margin of victory when Wormall shot inches over the bar in stoppage time.
