Harrowby United 6

Blackstones 1

Harrowby United progressed in the county cup as they blitzed Blackstones with a stunning first half display which included a Martin Wormall hat trick.

The Arrows took the lead in the second minute when a cross from the left from Scott Webb was met by a well placed header from Wormall.

Two minutes later the lead was doubled when a deep cross from Lee Shaw was headed back across goal by Liam Harper. Wormall controlled the ball and struck a sweet shot into the bottom corner. Harrowby continued to pile on the pressure and on six minutes Barry Payne headed just over the bar.

The third goal arrived after 17 minutes when a long ball down the left from Joe Clarke was gathered by Shaw who cut inside and produced a cool finish, shooting low into the right hand corner from a tight angle.

Blackstones to their credit did not roll over and pulled a goal back a minute later when Jose Andre shot home from just outside the penalty area.

Just before the half hour mark, Tom Clayton in the Blackstones goal saved well from Shaw.

But Harrowby made it four after 34 minutes when a ball out from defence from Jack Whyley found Webb in space. The Arrows wide man then threaded a precision ball through to man-of-the-match Wormall who turned his marker before slotting home to complete his hat trick.

The now rampant Arrows added a fifth four minutes later when Webb capitalised on a loose pass from Stones’ Dom Poli, going past a defender before producing a cute finish, dinking the ball over the onrushing Clayton.

Arguably the goal of the game came two minutes before the break. Webb played the ball into the box for Payne who controlled with his first touch and finished acrobatically with his second, a left foot half volley into the top corner.

Blackstones upped their game in the second period as damage limitation became the order of the day. Both sides created a few chances in a largely uneventful half, Clayton in the visitors’ goal being the busier of the two keepers.

Blackstones produced a late flurry, with Adam Scotcher shooting over two minutes from time and Arrows keeper Aiden Hotchin saving well with his feet from substitute Roberto Da Silva.

Harrowby face Deeping Rangers at the Environcom Stadium in the next stage of the competition.
