United Counties League
Harrowby United 7
Buckingham Town 2
Harrowby United hit a magnificent seven as Buckingham Town were put to the sword at the Environcom Stadium, with the Arrows breaking through the 100 league goals for the season mark in fine style.
The game’s first goal came after 15 minutes when a corner into the box was headed down by Jack Whyley to Lee Shaw. Shaw’s shot was blocked but fell nicely to Martin Wormall who turned smartly and slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
The Arrows’ lead was short lived when a loose pass in midfield gave possession to the Robins who quickly got the ball up to Dominic Lawless. The Buckingham striker advanced on goal before unleashing an unstoppable shot past a helpless Jack Drury in the Harrowby goal.
The home side regained the lead in the 25th minute when a John Currall free kick from the right was superbly headed home by Wormall inside the right hand post.
Five minutes later, a Scott Webb corner was met by the head of Kahmeel Spence and the ball deflected into the goal off a defender to give the Arrows a two-goal cushion.
In the 39th minute, a good move between Shaw and Webb created a shooting opportunity for Wormall whose effort was saved by Robins keeper Tom Sutch at the expense of a corner. The resulting ball in was flicked on at the near post by Sam Hill for Whyley to rise highest and head home.
The game was effectively over as a contest a minute into the second half when another corner in from the left found its way to Hill at the back post. Hill brought the ball down before swivelling and firing into the net from six yards out.
Number six came after fifty one minutes when Harrowby were awarded a free kick on the right. Sam Kirton stepped up and struck a sweet drive from 30 yards out past a rooted Sutch between the sticks. A minute later, Sutch did well to fingertip a shot from Shaw on to the cross bar and over for a corner.
Webb was unlucky after 73 minutes when he curled a lovely shot round Sutch’s outstretched hand, only to be denied as the ball cannoned off the post to safety.
Three minutes later, Buckingham scored a consolation goal as a loose ball in the Harrowby penalty was smashed in off the post by an alert Lawless.
Harrowby completed the scoring four minutes from time when Shaw fed the ball to Webb who coolly fired home to complete the rout.
