GOLF: Belton Park round off season with Am-Am competition

Belton Park mixed team held their end of season Am-Am on Sunday.

There was a good turnout of 39 players who went round the Brownlow course in 10 teams drawn by lady captain Joy Stepney.

Captain Tony Nickson’s team started play followed by Joy Stepney and her players. However it was vice-captains Paul Screen and Sheila Mason who, together with Jenny Baxter and Danny Coyle, were victorious with 80 points.

After the competition, the players enjoyed an excellent carvery meal.

Mixed team organiser Colin Mason congratulated the players on an excellent season in which they had won seven matches and only lost one.

l The increasingly popular Autumn Mixed Open Gillam Trophy competition was held at Belton Park last Sunday.

The Gillam Trophy is a magnificent trophy on permanent loan to the golf club in recognition of its close relationship with the RAF and the RAFA. The trophy commemorates the skill and bravery of Group Captain Denhys Gillam, one of the many heroes of the Battle of Britain.

The competition attracted a field of 60 pairs in the betterball Stableford format. The scoring was close but one pair eased away from the field to take the trophy.

Results: 1 Paul and Leslie Perrin (Belton Woods) 43pt, 2 Ollie Mitchell and Ina Woods (Belton Park) 40, 3 Chris Mousley and Sue Addis (Belton Park) 40, 4 Jeff and Vicky Carr (Stanton on the Wolds) 40, 5 Doug and Mo Poole (Brampton Park) 40, 6 Keith and Yvonne Scarborough (Woodhall Spa) 40.
