GOLF: Belton Park stages 25th junior open

Belton Park in conjunction with the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs held its 25th junior open event on Friday, with 45 competitors from an array of county clubs.

The morning round was a qualifying round for the Daily Telegraph competition, with the winners

possibly making their way to Quinta da Lago, Portugal, for the national final. The competition was

dominated by 14-years-old twins from Spalding GC – Hugo Kedzlie scoring two under par

gross 69, and his sister Tilly who scored 75 gross. Last season Hugo also qualified for the final.

The 36 holes gross final was won by Jake Craddock from Sleaford GC who scored 71, 71 (total 142), second was Hugo who scored 69, 76 (145), and tied for third place were Harry Glenn

(Belton Park) and Adam Barnard (Holme Hall), both on 147.

The best net score was by Sanjay Nithiyalingam (Burghley Park) on 136, winning the Belton

Park’s Plamore Trophy. Losing out on countback was Alex Wright (Belton Park) and third best net

was Harry Glenn from the home club.

l Belton Park junior club captain Tom Cooper, Ollie Mitchell and Harry Glenn are this week representing not only Belton Park but also Lincolnshire in the English Junior Club Championship at Frilford Heath Golf Club.

The boys qualified to represent Lincolnshire in the national finals by winning first the South Lincolnshire League and then going on to beat Forest Pines in the Lincolnshire League grand final.

The 36-hole stableford finals will be played over the green course at Frilford Heath with the best two scores from each team counting towards the team score. The finals are being played as part of England Golf’s festival of golf.

C Team

Belton Park enjoyed an emphatic win over Radcliffe, defeating the Nottinghamshire club 5-1 in fine style.

Sharing the honour as top pair in the match were Dick Short and David Lee, and Tony Davies and Richard Claxton – both pairs winning 6&5.

Radcliffe captain Barry Gamble thanked the Belton Park catering staff for a superb match meal and said how lucky the club was to have such superb facilities.

Stableford result: Division 1 – 1 Jan Johnson 40pt, 2 Sue Walker-Sherriff 39, 3 Pam Mackey 37; Division 2 – 1 Sue Addis 37, 2 Ailis Smith 36, 3 Enid Maltby 35 points.

Trevor Collis and John Carey lost 2&1, Alan Addis and Graham Secker won 5&4, Bill Brogan and Nigel Beaumont won 2&1, John Newton and Dave Martin won 5&4, Derek Little and Keith Brown won 5&4, Brian Mole and Willy Badraun lost 4&2, Nick Craft and Terry Bond won 3&2, Peter Brooks and Shaun Boney halved.
