GOLF: Watson and Plummer win Sudbrook Moor medal on countback
A challenging but fun format was enjoyed by Sudbrook Moor’s Tuesday ladies.
In a Greensomes Medal, played off a half combined handicap, a great test of a harmonious playing relationship and a no-blame attitude to alternate shots brought home a super win for winning pair Sue Watson and Eileen Plummer. There was a countback with their scorecard of one under SSS, from playing partners Sue Chambers and Norma Shelley, with the back nine holes making a difference of one shot on the net score. Third were Jeannie Priest and Chris Thompson, six shots adrift.
l The Tuesday Ladies’ Singles Stableford Roll-up was won by Rosemary Haw with 36 points, off a 36 handicap. Jenny Hilton, playing off 26, recorded 35 for second place, with Eileen Plummer and Diane Leslie both on 33. Diane’s included two birdie twos on hole numbers seven and 12.
l With one event remaining before the Summer Season of the main club Eclectic closes, Jon Machin recorded a birdie three on the first hole of last week’s Sunday Stableford to inch nearer the title, as leader of the Category for handicaps 0-13.
He has not yet caught overall leader Keith Moore, who is two shots up and in the Category of handicaps 14-28. Fifty per cent of the player’s handicap is deducted.
Tim Newberry leads the new season of the Seniors’ Eclectic, from Bob Watson, runner-up last season. Title holder over the past two seasons, amounting to a 12 month reign, Teddy-John Johnson is just three-and-a-half shots adrift after three competitions.
