Grantham Town lost 5-0 at home to Barwell on Tuesday night.

The Gingerbreads suffered the most inauspicious of starts when defender Sam Purcicoe volleyed quite spectacularly into his own net in the second minute.

Barwell doubled their lead four minutes later when a defensive mix-up in the six yard box allowed Cameron Powell an easy header.

Grantham went 3-0 down on 17 minutes when Alex Tomkinson was given time and space aplenty to pick his spot and fire in past keeper Jake Turner.

Town managed to plug the leaks until the 66th minute when a quick break ended with Brady Hickey firing home.

To add insult to injury, Hickey tried his luck from 25 to 30 yards four minutes later and saw his volley fly into the back of the net past a rooted Turner.
