A late goal denied Grantham Town even a share of the points after they led early on at The Meres on Tuesday night.

The Gingerbreads shocked Ilkeston with a Lee Ndlovu goal after just 32 seconds that took everyone by surprise.

The visitors took a while to recover as they struggled with Grantham’s early pace and restored parity through Lee Hughes in the 29th minute.

The game became very open in the second half and a goal looked possible at any time, at either end.

A poorly defended corner kick in the 87th minute allowed Ilkeston skipper Liam Marshall a free header at the near post and it was game over.

Grantham Town: Turner, Gorman, Storey (McGowan, 73), Hollingsworth (c), Humble, Beckett, Meadows, Beeson, Ndlovu (Shaw, 58), Saunders (Read, 66), Emmott. Subs not used: Kirby, Bilyk. Att: 228.
