Grantham Town fail to hold title-chasing Darlo

Northern Premier League

Premier Division

Grantham Town 0

Darlington 1883 2

Grantham Town were undone by two second half goals as Darlington moved a step closer to perhaps claiming the league title.

A goal never looked likely for either side in the first half, with chances few and far between.

The Gingerbreads held Darlo back for a further 10 minutes before conceding when Stephen Thompson pounced on a lapse in Grantham’s midfield. He cut through Town’s defence and placed his shot past Jake Turner with aplomb.

Grantham went close to replying two minutes later when Danny Meadows’ 25-yard drive came off the bar.

The visitors sealed victory in the 88th minute following a mistake in Town’s defence which allowed Liam Hardy to drive home to the cheers and applause of a large travelling contingent.
