Grantham Town pays tribute to long-standing doorman who has passed away
Grantham Town Football Club has paid tribute to its long-standing doorman, who has passed away.
Barry Roberts, an extremely well thought-of figure around the club, passed away yesterday.
On Twitter, the football club said: "It's with great sadness we share that #thegingerbreads doorman, Barry Roberts, passed away yesterday.
"Our thoughts are with his wife Marge and his family.
"Barry is well known to opposing officials in trying to stop them getting passed him into the tunnel area at The Meres."
Former Gingerbreads boss, Russell Cousins, said: "Sad news. Lovely bloke who always made me feel welcome during my time at the club. Always had time for a chat. RIP Barry."
Meanwhile, South Shields FC paid their respects to Barry: "We are so sorry to hear this, we loved meeting Barry earlier this year. Our thoughts are with everyone at the club and of course Barry's family and friends."
