GYMNASTICS: Grantham’s Jamal wins gold in county competition

Primary school pupil Jamal Jallow won gold at the Lincolnshire Gymnastics Association Floor and Vault competition at Spalding on Sunday.

A Year 5 pupil at the National Junior school, Jamal’s floor routine consisted of front and back somersaults, round off back-flip, and Russian and press handstand. His starting value was 13.30 and his result was 12.30, meaning that he only lost one mark.

On vault, Jamal performed two handsprings and lost just two marks overall.

His mother Michaela said Jamal had been thrilled to win gold and step on the top of the podium. She said: “His routine evoked a huge cheer and round of applause from the spectators and his smile confirmed that it was a good performance.”

Jamal is now back training four times a week at Lincoln Gymnastics Club to prepare and learn new skills for his next competition in February.
