Harrowby United found themselves out-scored in a goalfest at Deeping Rangers on a rain-lashed Tuesday evening at the Haydon Whitham Stadium in Market Deeping.

The Arrows came from behind to level three times but had no reply to Deeping’s excellent second half performance.

The hosts took the lead in the second minute when referee Mr Younger awarded them a soft looking free kick just outside the penalty area. Rangers captain David Burton-Jone’s shot was turned on to the post by Harrowby keeper Jonny Hotson, the ball faillng to Scott Mooney who stabbed home from a couple of yards out.

Harrowby equalised in the 10th minute with a fine solo effort from Scott Webb. The Arrows wide man cut in from the left, leaving a trail of defenders in his wake, before slotting the ball past Rangers custodian Danny Bircham.

Mooney had an effort saved by Hotson in the 13th minute as Rangers dominated play, overrunning the Harrowby midfield as they would continue to do for the whole game. They regained the lead in the 21st minute when Ngoni Dongo lost possession in midfield to Burton-Jones who quickly moved the ball wide to Will Bird. Bird’s cross from the right was swept home by Scott Coupland.

Harrowby levelled again five minutes later when a long ball out of defence by Simon Bolland sent Danny Durkin away down the left flank. Arrows’ top scorer squared the ball for Fraser Bayliss whose first effort was saved by Bircham, but the young striker made no mistake with a second attempt.

Deeping added a third goal after 34 minutes when a move down the right ended with a ball in from Bird to Mooney. He rounded Hotson to score and take the home side in ahead at the break.

The action didn’t let up in the second half and Harrowby drew level for the third time six minutes in. Webb threaded a cleaver ball from the left through to man of the match Bayliss whose low left foot shot beat Bircham inside his left hand post.

A key moment in the game came in the 64th minute when Henry picked up a ball headed out of the Arrows defence and fired a low shot through a crowd of players, past Hotson and into the net. The referee’s assistant raised his flag for offside but was overruled and the goal was allowed to stand.

Rangers increased their lead 10 minutes later when Bayliss lost possession and the ball was played through to Mooney. He evaded two challenges before slotting home past Hotson to secure his hat trick on the night.

Harrowby’s hopes of a comeback were dashed only a minute after the restart when possession was again conceded cheaply in the middle of the park and Mooney put Coupland through with only Hotson to beat. The advancing big keeper brought Coupland down to concede a penalty and also receive his marching orders.

Impressive all evening, Burton-Jones stepped up to send substitute keeper Nathan Jessop the wrong way and record Rangers’ sixth.

Jessop saved well from Coupland in the 87th minute but could do nothing a minute later when when the same player timed his run well to stay onside and get in behind the Arrows defence. Jessop stopped the first effort but Coupland was on hand to tap home the rebound.

Harrowby United: Hotson, Bolland, Currall, Whyley (c), Carr (Weatherstone, 50), Webb, Hill, Hillier, Dongo (Jessop, 75), Durkin, Bayliss. Subs not used: Andersen, Dunn, Stainfield.

l Harrowby United are at home against Wisbech Town on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
