LEARN MOREDry Doddington hockey player Shona McCallin made her presence known in her senior England competition debut by scoring a goal.
Former KGGS student Shona was representing England’s senior ladies’ team in the Champions Trophy in Argentina last week.
The 22-year-old scored her goal in a play-off with China to decide fifth and sixth places.
Shona’s 14th minute maiden goal gave England the lead in expertly fashion – and it proved to be decisive, taking the match to a penalty shoot-out after it ended tied 1-1 at full-time. England won the shoot-out 3-2.
Shona said: “It is a great feeling scoring my first England goal, and even better to finish the tournament and the year with a win.”
The tournament was won by host nation Argentina who beat Australia 3-1 in the final.
Hoping for a place in the 2016 Olympics set-up, Shona is currently in full-time training with the Great Britain squad at Bisham Abbey, Maidenhead.
