Former KGGS pupil Shona McCallin earned her 13th Great Britain senior cap on Sunday.

Shona, of Dry Doddington, played in the first of a series of four matches GB have against Japan. The match took place at GB’s hockey home in London, the former Olympic pitch at Lee Valley Stadium.

GB dominated the first half but, against the run of play, the visitors went in front in the 25th minute.

The home side levelled through Alex Danson in the third quarter, and the same player gave GB victory with a second goal two minutes before the final whistle.

Twenty-two-year-old Shona currently trains full time with the Great Britain squad and is based at Bisham Abbey, near Maidenhead.

The squad are currently ranked eighth in the world and are preparing for the World League in Valencia at the end of June, when they hope to qualify for next year’s Olympics in Brazil.
