120 seniors contest Stoke Rochford Open

One hundred and 20 players representing 32 different clubs competed in Stoke Rochford Seniors' 22nd Open Championship, which was an individual stableford split into three age categories.

Overall champion, winner of the Ben Tyler Trophy as the best Stoke Rochford player, and winner of age Group B was Terry Haggerty with 40 points, on countback from Stoke seniors captain Brian White.

Third in Group B with 37 points was Mike Nixon, also of Stoke Rochford.

In Group A, winner with 36 points and the medal for the best visitor was Kenneth Chatteris of Ely GC, on countback from runner-up Graham McNaughton of Rutland Water GC. Stoke Rochford's Adrian Stannard was third, also with 36.

Group C winner was Bob Griffiths of Market Harborough with 36 points. Runner-up with 35 was Ken Taylor of Stoke Rochford, whilst third with 34 on countback was William Litchfield of Beeston Fields.

Stoke seniors recorded their first win of the season in emphatic manner. Best winners by 6&5 were Brian Keightley and Darrell Knight who were playing against former Stoke senior Trevor Harvey and his partner.

On the way to that resounding win, Brian holed in one on the par three 12th to record his 10th ace.

Results: Brian White & Ray Elsome won 4&2, Brian Keightley & Darrell Knight won 6&5, Adrian Stannard & Roger Green won 2 up, Brian Ayto & John Martindale won 5&3, David Hamilton & Cliff Mills lost 1 down, Mike Thornton & Keith Dugmore halved, Mike Graves & Ken Taylor won 1 up, Mick Rance & Phil Hewes lost 4&3.
