Athletes from Grantham schools have been selected to represent Lincolnshire at the English Schools’ Athletic Championships at Gateshead International Stadium.

To compete in these championships athletes have to achieve a high entry standard.

Lincolnshire are allowed a total of 25 athletes and selection is based on performances throughout the season with performances in the county schools’ championships and the Anglian Inter-County fixture in Norwich.

Amy Hunt (KGGS) will compete in the junior girls’ 100m.

She is the English Schools’ Champion in this event, having won it last year as a 13-year-old, and she is top of the UK rankings in the under 15 100m.

In the intermediate girls, Abbie Byron-Walton has been selected for the 200m and relay squad.

Katie Mackintosh (Walton Girls) will compete in the 300m hurdles and relay squad.

In the intermediate boys, Tom Evans (Kings’ School) will race in the 400m after winning the junior boys’ 300m last year.

Lewis Davey (Prior Ruskin Academy) has been selected for the 400m hurdles, where he is ranked 12th in the UK in the under 17 age group.

In the 100m and relay, Praise Olalere (Priory Ruskin Academy) has been selected to compete.
