MARTIAL ARTS: Charlie is youngest England kickboxer
A Grantham youngster has been selected to represent the British Chinese Kickboxing Association England team.
Charlie Digan, who has only just turned six years old, is the youngest person ever to be picked to join the team in its 20-year history.
He follows in the footsteps of his father Trevor who was part of the national team when it was first formed.
Trevor said: “Charlie has been training for just over a year and has been showing natural ability from the start.”
BCKA head coach Alex Barrowman Snr has been keeping a close eye on Charlie over the last six months and the Grantham prodigy has been training with the England team at its headquarters in Corby.
At the weekend, Charlie was presented with his national kickboxing suit and is now officially part of the national team.
Charlie’s first-semi contact competition is in Manchester next month at the WKC British Open in which he is aiming to gain a podium place, and with it a chance to fight in Portugal at the World Championships later in the year.
Trevor said: “We are hoping that he will do quite well.”
