An Ingoldsby martial artist climbed another rung on the Tae Kwon-Do ladder by earning her first degree black belt with the Tae Kwon-Do Association of Great Britain.

Rose Arnold reached the new pinnacle after an intensive series of tests under the watchful gaze of a panel of eighth and ninth degree masters at the association headquarters in Bristol.

She was tested on a number of areas including fighting skills, self-defence strategies, patterns, basic foundation movements and a verbal examination of her knowledge of the martial art.

The 15-year-old juggles a busy school timetable with training at Grantham King’s School sessions and Ron Dawson Hall, Corby Glen, under the expert instruction of seventh degree black belt Malcolm Scholes and sixth degree black belt Jill Pearce.

Rose began training at the age of 10 as a family activity with her father, mother and brother and over the years she has picked up a lot of medals and trophies in competition, specialising in the patterns events.

The next event for the Grantham and Corby Glen members will be the Tae Kwon-Do British Championships, hosted by the association at the Derby Arena at the end of November.

The club have members competing in a variety of disciplines at the championships, including junior, senior and executive categories.
