Six-year-old kickboxer Charlie Digan heads to Portugal to compete in the World Championships this weekend.

Barkston and Syston School pupil Charlie is the current WKC European and BCKA British kickboxing champion at his age and will be hoping to bring home gold from the Worlds.

His place on the WKC England team was secured thanks to sponsorship from family, friends and local businesses in the Grantham area.

Charlie and his parents Hannah and Trevor Digan thanked Howard Pell of Chandlers Agricultural Farm Machinery, Ben Benbow of Menz Room Hair Design, and a third main sponsor who wished to remain anonymous. Other donations included that of Philip Dixon, of Woodlines, and Trevor said they were also grateful to Andrew Watson, of Logos for Clothes, for embroidering all the sponsors on to Charlie’s fight suit.

Trevor said: “Charlie has been training extremely hard the last 12 weeks leading up to this competition, and we are all hopeful he will do well.”
