Another good weekend for Grantham Tennis Club

The weekend started well for Grantham with the ladies’ fifth team beating Mansfield B in their first match.

The team, who won a convincing 85 games to 23, comprised Jo Carstairs, Jill Pindar, Katy Dines, Claire Marris, Megan Jones and Laura Dixon.

The ladies’ second veteran team travelled to Bourne to face their second string. The team of Pam Aust, Janet Ibberson, Sheena Gordine and Jo Jones lost a very close game, five sets to three. On Sunday, the men’s winter fourth team played their second match of the season against Bingham A and triumphed 71-37. The team were David Hall, Chris Thurlow, Mike Roys, Dominic Newcombe, Samuel Chan and Michael Cragg.

The mixed doubles first team were hosted by West Bridgford 1st team. Grantham won the match convincingly with the team of Lianne Tapson, Paul White, Richard Cragg, Helen Povah, Simon Cormer and Charlotte Palul. The great weekend continued with the first men’s pilot winter league match. The team of Andrew Isaac, Ilya Paulavets, Ben Howbrook and Daniel Mole beat Appleby Frodingham four matches to one.

Grantham’s first team beat West Bridgford in the Nottingham Indoor League with the players Richard Cragg, James Drennan, Lianne Tapson and Charlotte Palul.

Individually, Dominic Newcombe entered the grade four Queniborough Tournament. Seeded second, he made it to the final by winning two matches. The final was 5-3 4-2 against Dom who played some very good tennis all day. He will get 75 points for the final performance.

Samuel Chan also entered a county tour match at Rustons. He also reached the final and gained himself 75 ranking points.
